For many of us, Sunday means that our mega-chill out mode is ON.
For me, Sunday evenings also mean that I take time for a face mask; somehow it feels like I am ‘rebooting’ my skin for the week ahead.
Lately I have found myself using five face masks in particular, depending on what my skin needs at that time.
- Pure Clay Glow Mask, L’Oréal Paris / Currently on offer for £6.00 at Boots.
When L’Oréal launched this line of 3 different Clay Masks earlier this year, the whole beauty community was *quite* excited at the idea of finally having found an affordable dupe for the ever so popular (but oh so expensive) Glam Glow Mask.
My favourite one from the line is definitely the ‘Glow’ – composed of Koalin, Montmorillonite and Ghassoul which are all gentle clarifying, I find this leaves my skin deeply cleansed and purified without being aggresive. It definitely has a brightening effect which I found essential to fight dull skin in the winter.
As such I have a tendency of using it on my upper cheek and forehead, while I will put a deep mud mask on my nose and chin.
While a lot of the Superdrug own brand masks are great, those two are without a doubt my favourites.
Although both focus on claryfying the skin, I tend to reach for them at different times.
The Dead Sea Mineral Mask is definitely the ‘stronger’ of the two – and of my entire skin masks collection when I think of it! I use it when my skin has been behaving badly, especially to target excess sebum and hormonal spots.
Tip: always use a good dose of ‘extra gentle’ moisturiser afterwards.
The De-stressing Mud Mask is infused with avocado oil, green tea and aloe vera and will calm any redness that I would have without being as ‘harsh’ as the previous one.
4. Instant Mask Detox, Caudalie / £22.00 on FeelUnique, currently -20% with the code FEELMAGIC.
The French beauty addict that I am could not have included a French brand in this list!
Caudalie has been one of my top favourite brand for years now – my mum has been usings their skincare for as long I can remember and I am yet to find a product which dissapointed me.
This mask although in the higher price range of this top five, is definitely worth it when it comes to the price per use. I would say this tube contains 15 to 20 uses (depending if local or full face application).
Although it is again a clay based mask, I would say that it is the perfect blend of the L’Oréal Glow and a Dead Sea Mineral Mask.
After removing it with warm water you will find your skin cleansed, pores refined and your face visibly brightened.
This is the mask I reach for the most on a ‘normal’ skin day.
5.Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask, Garnier / Currently on offer at Boots for £0,99.
Finally a wee novelty in my skincare routine: the sheet mask.
Very popular in Asian skincare, those types of masks are slowly but surely popping up in more and more European beauty brands selections.
The Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask (pictured here the Germian version), is perfect for a Sunday pamper on a cold winter evening. It is VERY moisturising and enriched in hyaluronic acid which adds lines/first wrinkles fighting to its properties (wonderful if you are in your late twenties for example … booooooh!)
I tend to reach for this mask when I am in need of a ‘luxury’ routine, something that will pick up my mood and make me feel special. After this I am all ready to attack a new and stressful week!
